Maybe you have never been to the Four State Farm Show. Perhaps it has been several years. Why not plan on making the trip this year?
Held on the beautiful campus of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS, the show is set for May 20-22. “Last year’s move to PSU enabled us to showcase indoor booths in a climate-controlled facility for the first time in 37 years” said Four State Farm Show manager, Lance Markley. “With nearly 500 agricultural and rural living booths sold in the Plaster Center for this year’s show, visitors will have access to a huge array of products and services.” Additionally, over 300 outdoor booths contain the latest technology in farm machinery, construction equipment, livestock handling, trailers, tools and much more.
Highlighting this year’s event is The Grand Giveaway, an opportunity for a lucky farm show attendee to win a one-year lease on a John Deere 5045E utility tractor equipped with a front-end loader. A joint venture between Heritage Tractor and Four State Farm Show/Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, the package has a lease value of $5,172 and a sale value of $30,800. “A big thank you goes out to the 21 Heritage dealership locations for their participation in the Grand Giveaway. This 50 hp tractor is perfect for utility chores on the farm, ranch or worksite and interest in the drawing is already huge” Markley added. Registration will take place in the Farm Talk Newspaper booth located in the Plaster Center. Three preliminary winners will be drawn daily with the grand prize drawing to be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Also incorporated into this year’s format are a variety of tasty, food truck style concession options. Pineapple Whip makes its return after a 4-year absence and Ghetto Tacos will feature street tacos at their best. Customers can see kettle corn being handmade in the unique Cowboy Kettle Corn wagon or enjoy fair favorite foods from Lakeside Concessions. Five different styles of gourmet grilled cheese along with burgers, wraps and loaded baked potatoes from W.H. Farm Café feed wagon round out the menus.
Corbitt Wall, Market Economist, DV Auction, will headline a special presentation on how cattle producers can benefit from Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20. The event will be held in the Bicknell Center located south of the Plaster Center indoor booth venue. Other industry professionals involved include Skyler Moore from Joplin Regional Stockyards along with Kevin Charleston and Brian Youngblood representing Specialty Risk Insurance.
Visitors to the free admission show can access free parking in the Brown Lot east of the football stadium or on numerous other PSU parking lots throughout the campus. Buses will be available to shuttle attendees to the booth areas and (2) 40 passenger trams will travel continuously through the show during show hours. “We are working hard this year to make campus transportation as efficient and people friendly as possible” Markley stated.
