This year’s Four State Farm Show won’t soon be forgotten as an unprecedented amount of rain fell prior to the show, which created muddy conditions for the “Mall of Agriculture” near Pittsburg, Kansas.
“First of all, a huge thank you to exhibitors and attendees,” said Lance Markley, Four State Farm Show coordinator and Farm Talk Newspaper publisher. “Your understanding that our staff was doing everything in our power to produce the show under adverse conditions was very much appreciated.”
Despite the ongoing battle with Mother Nature, most exhibitors and attendees remained positive.
“While the weather lessened crowd numbers, a number of exhibitors indicated strong interest and sales,” Markley said. “Serious buyers were definitely in attendance.”
Each day of the show, visitors had the opportunity to enter to win the $1,000 Shopping Spree at the Farm Talk Newspaper tent. On Friday, the winner was Mark Hellwig of Oswego, Kansas. Eldon Mast of Sarcoxie, Missouri, was Saturday’s lucky winner. Crystal Fields of Baxter Springs, Kansas, won on Sunday. Each winner will be able to choose a Four State Farm Show exhibitor with whom to spend his or her $1,000.
Kids 18 and younger could enter to win the Kids’ Drawing. Gage Winters of Mound Valley, Kansas, was this year’s winner.
The popular topic of show conversation and speculation was where and when next year’s show will be held.
“This was the final year on the contract at the current location,” Markley said. “A number of options are being pursued for next year’s show, and the 2020 show dates and location will be announced when negotiations are completed.”
The next show sponsored by Farm Talk Newspaper will be the 2019 Ozark Fall Farmfest at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Missouri. The dates for the upcoming show are Oct. 4, 5 and 6.
